TrueCrypt for Mac is a program to establish and maintain an 'on-the-fly' encrypted layer medium / device. 'On-the-fly' encryption means that data is automatically encrypted or decoded just before loading or saving without any user interference.

No data stored on an encrypted device can be read (decoded) without using the correct password / key file or encryption key. The entire file system is encrypted (eg file name, folder name, content of any file, free space, meta data, etc.).
